In creating Easy Songs for Beginners Guitar, I want to make sure that my readers know what I’m talking about when I’m explaining things. I’ve compiled a short list of important words to know as a guitarist that will not only help you in learning to play through this site, but these words are necessary to know as a guitar player in general. My advice would be to print this page so that you can easily refer to words that you stumble upon that you don’t know.
Body – The biggest part of the guitar; the part you hold with your right arm.
Flat - When the pitch of the note is too low; also used to describe certain notes, for example E flat (or E♭).
Fret – raised lines along the fretboard that are used to distinguish notes when playing.
Fretboard – The front part of the neck where you place your fingers to play different notes.
Head – The “top” of the guitar. Where your tuning pegs are attached.
Neck – The long part of the guitar where the frets are attached.
Sharp – When the pitch of the note is too high; also used to describe certain notes, for example C Sharp (or C #).
Sound Hole – The hole in the body of the guitar. Where the sound reverberates.
Tuning Pegs – Pegs at the tops of your guitar where you can make the sound of each string higher or lower. Used to tune the guitar.
